Works for ME Wednesday...Frugal Birthday Gifts

Baby Daughter is turning 2 tomorrow. Money is tight here, but I still felt the need to get her a few things for her special day. Once Upon a Child is my favorite resale store. It is a chain and seems to have locations just about EVERYWHERE. The toys, books and dolls I've bought there have always been in wonderful shape. The key, at least for me, is to be willing to walk out without buying anything and go back in a few days.

This week, I got lucky. I was looking at the toys & dolls when I noticed a brightly colored castle up on the shelf. It was a Dora Castle. I was willing to spend as much as $15 on it because of it's size & GREAT condition, but I was pleasantly surprised when I got it down to find it was marked $5.50 (as is). I checked it for defects and decided that the as is must be referring to some missing accessory.

For my needs it is PERFECT! All three girls are very into playing dollhouse. We currently have a Fisher Price Dollhouse & a Little Tykes dollhouse, this Dora Castle will be Baby Daughter's very own dollhouse. We have tons of dolls & dollhouse furniture that we've accumulated over the years. The castle came with a 4 poster bed & a Dora Princess doll.

She will also be receiving several other inexpensive items I bought new, but the Dora Castle will be her BIG gift. I can't wait for her to open it, she's going to be sooooo happy! Kids couldn't care less how much a gift cost or whether it was previously loved by someone else, this definitely Works for Me!

That's so great! I never thought of consignment stores for toys. D'oh I know! It sounds like an awesome score, she'll be thrilled and you cannot beat that price!

I hear so many good things about that store but alas we have none nearby. Good deal ya got there!

My son's birthday is this week too and I just picked him up a keyboard with microphone for $3.99 (NIP from Goodwill) . Lovin' it!

That is a great score. Lydia has that and loves it. I love Once Upon A Child. The clothing prices are a bit high IMO but you can get great deals on shoes, toys and other items.
