Where in the World Wednesday

Frozen Head State Park!  This is a Tennessee State park not far from our house.  We have driven past the sign on Interstate 40 more times than I can count, but we had never gone.  Last Friday we felt like going on an adventure.  We thought about going to the Great Smokey Mountain National Park, but we’ve been there quite a few times and wanted to go someplace NEW.June10 003

I just love these little benches around the trees.  All the State parks in Tennessee seem to have them. Maggie wasn’t sure she was going to like it.June10 015
This walking bridge went over a shallow creek.  The water was clearer than any other creek I have ever seen in Tennessee.  Most rivers and creeks here are muddy. Hubby said it was so clear because of all the rocks. June10 018

Marissa and Melanie were thrilled to see this huge playground. The multiple slides were their favorite part. It had just rained and the ground was a bit muddy, but that didn’t stop Marissa & Melanie from enjoying themselves.
I don’t usually let the kids go into running water without a lifejacket, but since this was a very shallow stream we decided to go wading in our clothes. June10 047
Not only was the water clear, it was also COLD!  I told Hubby that it felt like snow run off, but he insists that it isn’t.  The kids were surprised at just how cold it was, but they still had a good time playing in it.  The rocks however were a bit slippery and Melanie was not happy when she had trouble moving from one place to another.  Mean Mom that I am, I took her picture before helping her get up.  Morgan went exploring with Hubby, so I didn’t get any pictures of him in the water. The two of them spent about an hour exploring the area upstream from where the girls and I were playing on the playground. June10 057

We have lived in Tennessee for 5 1/2 years and we are still finding new places to explore on a regular basis.

What a perfect day out! It is always nice to visit new places in your own state. My kids would have loved that playground too!

Isn't it funny how you don't go to places that you live close to? There is an amusement park about 15 minutes away, but we never go! LOL

That park look so nice and green!! My kids would be playing in the freezing water too..lol.

That looks like a beautiful state park! My kids would beg me to wade in the water, too. How fun that you let them! (I'm not sure that I would have!) You're a great mom.
